On Thursday, October 15th,
I attended the DUI Prevention program
at South Fork High School. This
event provided a powerful message to
all of those who had the opportunity to
attend. Renee Napier, a Florida mother who lost her daughter
in a DUI accident, shared with students and the community
her emotional story and her desire to turn this tragedy into an
opportunity to raise awareness about the dangers of drinking
and driving.
The program also included presentations by local father Tim
Stone, whose daughter Sarah died in an alcohol related accident.
He was joined by the driver responsible for the crash,
Stephen Bromstrup. Both men urged students to make good
choices and think about the potential consequences of their
actions.

Sitting in the audience listening to all three speakers, it was
impossible not to be moved. It is my hope that their combined
message will make a difference in the lives of our young
people. I would like to thank the Martin County Sheriff’s Office
for partnering with the district to make this presentation possible,
as well as Ms. Napier, Mr. Stone, and Mr. Bromstrup for
taking the time to speak to our students at South Fork High
School, Indiantown Middle School, and to the community.
